Volunteer: Bicycles Needed for Refugees

We are looking for bicycles that are in good working condition as donations that we can pass along to our refugee clients. We are in need of adult bikes, as many of our adult refugees bike to work as a more timely and dependable mode of transportation compared to walking or taking the bus. This can be the best mode of transportation while they are in the process of getting a drivers license, which can take up to two years! We are also in need of kids bikes, since many of our refugee kids bike to school, and use it as a great way to exercise during the summer.

If you have a bike that you would like to donate (tax deductibly!) to a great cause, please reach out!

Volunteer: Sponsor a Child Waiting for Adoption

Children in the foster care system who are waiting for their Forever Family can use the love and support of the community - especially around the holidays or birthdays. Could you bless a child by sponsoring them through providing gifts for birthdays and Christmas, or assisting with other seasonal needs through the year like backpacks and winter gear?

Contact Lori Schriver at lschr@lasadoption.org to learn how you can make a difference in the life of a child today.

Through Samaritas’s Adoption program - Legacy Adoption Services - you can help kids up for adoption in Michigan find a “lifelong loving family.” Every child needs love, shelter and guidance. These most basic of provisions are missing for some children, and the older the child, the more dire the circumstances, especially when they come from an abusive or neglectful situation. Our Michigan foster to adopt program helps pair children available for adoption in Michigan with loving homes where they will thrive. To support the Legacy Adoption Services with a monetary donation, visit https://www.samaritas.org/About-Samaritas/Donate.

Volunteer: Group Opportunity Mid MI: Lead an Activity at an Affordable Living Community

Get a group together - whether through your church, club, or business - for a fun volunteer opportunity to support individuals in Samaritas' Affordable Living Communities!

Volunteer groups are needed to plan and organize events for seniors and persons with disabilities. Do you have a skill you love to teach and share with others, such as painting or scrapbooking? Do you love throwing parties like holiday parties of birthday parties? Or do you enjoy getting together with groups of people to dance, play games, watch movies, carve pumpkins, or sing songs? Whatever you love to do, you can share that love with the residents at our many Affordable Living Communities around the state!

Due to budgets and mobility, many residents of Affordable Living don't have opportunities to engage in public community activities. That's why we welcome groups - no matter whether a church group, school group, club, or business - to create opportunities for fun and engagement that anyone, regardless of age or mobility, can enjoy.

Contact Kayla Park at kpark@samaritas.org or 517-449-3270 if interested.

Volunteer: Spread Awareness About Adoption

Help us recruit Forever Families for the many children waiting in Michigan! YOU can make an impact in the life of a child waiting for a family by spreading the word. There are many ways to help!

Share and hang up Lutheran Adoption Services flyers within your community and/or passing out prayer cards of waiting youth. Invite LAS to set up a recruitment table at your place of worship. (Could your church be a partner with LAS and help children in need of families around Michigan?)

Contact Allison Brussee at abrus@lasadoption.org to learn more.
