Who We Are

The Samaritas Family Center is a short-term residential program for local families experiencing homelessness. The facility can accommodate up to 25 families at once and serves 85 to 120 families every year. Since 1994, this collaboration with Wayne County has helped to provide emergency shelter, resources, and support for homeless families of all types including two-parent families, grandparents with grandchildren, single mothers or fathers with children, and single women who are pregnant.

What We Do

While most shelters in Michigan have separate facilities for women and men with children, Samaritas believes that keeping the family together can better facilitate their transition and strengthen their familial bonds. Our commitment to keeping families intact, and to meeting the needs of the whole person, makes the Samaritas Family Center a special place. Furthermore, the Family Center provides much more than a safe place to stay as people rebuild their lives. With your help, this Samaritas Common Cause can ensure that each family member receives the care and resources they need to recover and resume their journey, providing hope and help for their future.

Like many homeless shelters in Michigan, the Family Center shelter relies heavily on the generous contributions and volunteer efforts of surrounding communities. If you would like to make a monetary donation, a donation of items, or a donation of your time to our Westland homeless shelter, please Give Here. Help for homeless families in Michigan is always needed and welcomed. No contribution to our Wayne County shelter is too small.
